Hi,

That's absolutely correct, with a 1 Hz channel period, the ANT radio will only send one of the 4 samples. The channel period dictates the rate at which messages are transmitted, and each message contains only 1 sample. So with a 4 measurement per second sampling rate, but with the radio only transmitting 1 message per second, only 1 of those samples can be sent in that second, and the other 3 samples are discarded.

Ideally your channel period should match your sampling rate, so that you send every sample.

Cheers

The module attached to the USB board will not make a difference.

I still believe that your problem is with the channel configuration. Would you please provide your code for your embedded application and your ANTware logs so that I can verify that you are setting your nodes up correctly?

An API for programmers to utilize USB Host support (allowing you to connect dongles to your device) is available since Android 3.1 (ie. phones from 4.0) - however due to power requirements the feature is primarily for tablets, and won't be included in many phones. This is a good step forward, but no products have been announced...yet.

A Bluetooth to ANT bridge is also possible. While the MOTOACTV is nice, even with a rooted MOTOACTV applications can not make use of the inbuilt ANT as there is no API provided. Again no products to do this have been announced (but demonstrations with the TI CC2567 chip last year have shown how easy it can be done).

Hi,

You are receiving EVENT_RX_FAIL_GO_TO_SEARCH twice, but they are two separate instances.

Your log shows that you have a syncronized channel that is receiving (Message ID 0x4E). Then you receive 7 consecutive EVENT_RX_FAIL messages which causes your channel to loose synchronization and drop to search. After your search timeout has occurred, the channel is autmatically closed, so you receive a response no error to your channel closed message. Then, you send a reset command which puts the wheels in motion to re-open your channel.

Then, your channel finds a matching master, synchronizes with it for a short time, and the same scenario happens again. It receives 7 EVENT_RX_FAIL messages then subsequently drops to search, evident from the EVENT_RX_FAIL_GO_TO_SEARCH.

The logs you provided are perfectly normal. Because your channel dropped to search twice, you will receive an EVENT_RX_FAIL_GO_TO_SEARCH twice. If your intention is not to re-open the channel after it has been closed, I suggest taking a look at the code you are using and handling the event more appropriately.

Cheers,

Kassandra

For closing the channel, make sure to wait until the EVENT_CHANNEL_CLOSED is generated, which can take up to one message period from the point where you send the close channel command. After this, the status should be reflected accurately.

Once you open the channel and see the RESPONSE_NO_ERROR, a slave channel will go to the SEARCHING state, and will reflect this accurately in the response.

Since you are not getting any EVENT_TX messages, it would seem that the channel was closed. Are you able to confirm with a logic analyzer whether the EVENT_CHANNEL_CLOSED message is being sent by ANT after closing the channel? This would let you know if there are any issues on the serial drivers that would cause your MCU to miss messages from ANT.

Hi,
I'm faced to the same issue, I use AP81M5IB module in sync byte mode . There is no issue to open a channel, I enabled the 32kHz crystal and I didn't see the comsumption improvement.

When I try to close the channel and I receive RESPONSE_NO_ERROR but never EVENT_CHANNEL_CLOSED, and the module keeps on broadcasting.

Moreover, I tried to use the deep sleep command as indicated in the AN13, the module answer without any impact.

The only working way is to switch but it'snot acceptable.

How could be sure the 32kHz crystal is started?

Alejandro did you fix this issue?

Thanks in advance for your support.

Best Regards

I am trying out the emulator tools and have followed the readme instructions in the package.

When I launch the ANT Android VM, it makes it through the screen with the small font Android and the blinking underscore after the d. However, it never makes it past the next screen with the large ANDROID and the wave going through the letters. Eclipse console hangs at the "Waiting for HOME ('android.process.acore') to be launched..." message.

If I try to connect via adb to install the Service and Configuration apks, I cannot connect presumably because the VM has not fully loaded yet.

I've created ANT Android emulators for both version 2.1 and 4.0.3 and get the same behavior in both.

I've not had this problem with any of the non-ANT emulators and have successfully written and debugged code using the same Eclipse and SDK installation as I'm using with this.

I'm very eager to get this going and move forward. Any suggestions for getting the VM to fully launch are greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Tom

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000KUQ8FG/ref=oh_o01_s00_i02_details

I also tried a Targus 4-port non-powered hub with the same results. I tested with no other devices connected to the hub, and tried plugging the stick into the hub, then the hub into the PC. Then tried the reverse: plugged the hub into the PC, then the stick into the hub, all with the same results. I usually can open the Ant dll and attach to the device, but lose communication when trying to open a channel.

I used a software protocol analyzer called USBLyzer to capture the URB's in both scenarios of plugging into the computer and functioning properly, and plugged into the hub and not functioning. Would it help for you to see those files? Is there a way to get those files to you to look at?

Nordic Semi's refernce design does support a 50 ohm stub and they suggest a meandering antenna design. I suggest you contact your local Nordic distributor to ask them for layout help and circuit testing. Nordic offers these services to their customers typically for free.

I suggest taking a look at the 'Getting started with ANT+ Enabled Applications' post available here: http://www.thisisant.com/component/option,com_fireboard/Itemid,146/func,view/catid,25/id,1169/
and
http://www.thisisant.com/component/option,com_fireboard/Itemid,146/func,view/catid,25/id,1391/

There is also some embedded reference code for ANT+ applications available here:

http://www.thisisant.com/pages/ant/ant-embedded-reference-designs

In order to access the emebedded reference code, you will need to become an ANT+ adopter. It is free, and can be done through the following link: http://www.thisisant.com/pages/ant/ant-adopter-agreement

I strongly suggest that you try talking to the walk+ with ANTware II and confirming that you can actually see it showing up there, if you can't see it there, you will NOT see it on your Android app.

I am also curious where you got the value for the period from? I would be curious to see if you can see the beacon from the walk+ if a node in ANTware II is opened in continuous scanning mode, if you can, then your period is wrong. Please try this.

I would also like to point out that there is currently no ANT+ device profile that uses 100 as the device type. This leads me to believe that the information you have regarding the walk+ is wrong, and that it is not an ANT+ device, as Martin Simhofer said.

I suggest taking Martin Simhofer's advice and try looking for the device on the public network on frequency 66 (with your ANTware II node in continuous scan mode, not a specific period).

If you still cannot get the walk+ to transmit, contact the manufacturer, as we are do not know the specifics of the walk+, and will be unable to provide you with any device specific support.

When you're a registered ANT adopter you have access to valuable tools in the ANT adopter's corner of www.thisisant.com.
E.g. ANTFS-Host and -Client apps for Windows that can
1. simulate a display that receives data from the BPM
2. simulate a BPM sensor
So you:
1. can check if your BPM device is ok, talks ANT+ flawlessly and you understand the pairing procedure
2. have a simulator that you can use for development and testing to peer with your application

The ANT Managed Library is composed of two parts: a native library and a managed wrapper to expose all the functionality in .NET. While most of the native library is cross platform, the lower layers that implement the communication with the USB stick are specific to hardware/drivers, so this is something you would need to implement for your mobile platform. The full source code of the libraries is available in the ANT+ Adopter Zone

Have you had a look at the ANT Windows & MacOS Library Packages? Most of the library is implemented in C++, and is cross platform. The parts dealing with serial communication are specific to each platform, as they are related to specific hardware and drivers. The full source code is available on the ANT+ Adopter Zone, so you can have a look and decide whether it fits your development.

Since you mentioned specifically Android and iOS... There is already an ANT Android SDK - it is quite different from the PC libraries. For iOS, if you are planning on using a 3rd party dongle (e.g. Wahoo), you may need to use the API provided by the 3rd party.

I read with interest a hint that this is being worked on, on the SE Developer World site. (http://developer.sonyericsson.com/wp/2012/01/12/the-family-of-xperia-phones-supporting-ant-is-growing/#more-5029)
I have structured my bike head unit app IpBike (http://www.iforpowell.com/cms/index.php?page=ipbike) into two seperate apps so as to at least allow myself to do multiple apps talking to ant simultaniously. Although I have not started on a second app yet I am planning to do a logger for HR RR data.

If there is any cance of participating in the design work I am interested.

A beta of the app is avalible off my website (http://www.iforpowell.com/cms/index.php?page=android-apps). Feedback welcome.

Question regarding ANT receiver sensitivity is something everyone
would like to know. Recently I replaced my ANT2 modules with C7
modules by TI. The nice feature is RSSI which was not available
in previous modules. In my surprise the lowest RSSI I managed to
achieve with no loss (BER = 0) was only -48dBm of RX RSSI signal.
This is somehow very, very BAD RX sensitivity. The documentation
is giving -85dBm at BER = 0.1%. But this number is not reachable.

I have tried hooked PA on the front-end of ANT2 and C7 modules
and performance is improved by incredible 40dB!!!
RF link distance 10km!!!

Could anyone explain to me how-so that RX sensitivity is so bad
and what can be done to improve this figure? I would like to
have workable RF link with -80dBm of RX signal.

An unknown message generates all unknown fields, which by default are of type 'enum'. In a stream using compressed timestamp headers that includes unknown messages (as is the case for a Garmin FR70 ACTIVITY file), treating the unknown Timestamp field as a single byte enum rather than a 4 byte value corrupts the following compressed timestamps in the stream.

I have a quick set of fixes to Decode, Factory, and Field to set the Field type based on the unknown message MessageDefinition. This corrects the problem and helps properly process fields within unknown messages.

What is the appropriate way to post such fixes back to the development team working on the next rev of the SDK? Send me a note if you would like a copy of my fixes.

That is correct. The CSV tool could be improved to ignore message id case. The message ids are not case sensitive because lower case with words delimited by underscore is converted to lower, upper or intercaps depending on the language convention.

If there is a mismatch on baud rate, you will have issues communicating through UART. Since you mention the bit period you are measuring is not as expected, please double check your clock circuitry, as well as your UART baud rate configuration.

Please carefully review your connections with respect to the reference design for UART in the datasheet From your description, there may be a few errors - SIN/SOUT should be connected to the serial lines of your MCU, not to VCC. Are you using an external 32KHz clock sourced for the AP2? XC32K1& 2 should be connected to the external 32KHz source if you are using one.

If possible, we would also recommend connecting the RESET pin to an output in your MCU, so you have the ability to reset the AP2 from your MCU.
