NEW EXTENDED DISPLAY PROFILE FOR HEADS-UP DISPLAYS AND FITNESS DEVICES

NEW PROFILE IS THE FIRST TO DEFINE DATA FORWARDING FROM FITNESS DEVICES TO DISPLAY ACCESSORIES

Cochrane, Alberta – April 18, 2016 – ANT Wireless, proven innovator in ultra low power (ULP) wireless technology, today announced the release of its new Extended Display profile (EXD) for ANT+ Alliance members. The profile is the first to define communication between a fitness device and an extended display (e.g., a bike computer or sports watch and an extended heads up display unit). This expands ANT+ device-to-device communication beyond control and coordination use cases. Features include:

• Data Streaming:  data from a user’s main device (e.g., fitness watches, bike computers, etc.) is streamed to an extended display (e.g., a heads-up display) allowing the user to check performance metrics and navigation without having to take their eyes away from their activity.
• Custom Configuration: users can configure exactly what data is displayed on their extended display from their central fitness device.
• Alerts and Notifications: the user’s main device can send notifications (upcoming navigation directions, phone alerts, work out alerts, etc.) to their extended display.

“At ANT Wireless, we are continuing to introduce technologies that enable innovative devices to communicate seamlessly,” said Mike Rounding, Product Manager for ANT+. “With the Extended Display device profile, athletes can see their data where they want it as part of the ANT+ interoperable sport and fitness product ecosystem.”

The new profile is currently being used by Garmin Edge 520 and 1000 to communicate with the newly released Varia Vision In-sight Display, Garmin’s first heads-up display device.
