Sportiiiis’ Heads-up Display Revolutionizes Audio/Visual Feedback of ANT+ Data

New generation features upgrades to LED lights, attachment point and functionality to maximize user experience

It’s really a simple concept... Are you doing the right thing, or are you doing the wrong thing? That is exactly what Sportiiiis is designed to tell you. Developed by 4iiii Innovations Inc., Sportiiiis is a cutting-edge, heads-up audio/visual attachment for glasses that reads data from any ANT+ compatible monitoring device. It is designed to give users performance feedback without distracting them from their activity, allowing the athlete to train smarter, faster and safer.

“During a fast-paced sport like running or biking where you need to be paying attention to the road, many people can’t focus for long enough on a traditional watch display or bike computer to read the numbers. The numbers could be too small or not bright enough. Having the ability through position and colour to see performance is unique in the industry and it allows the athlete to focus on what is important – the road and the race,” said 4iiii Innovations Inc. President, Ian Andes.

Multi-colored LEDs and verbal prompts guide the athlete to targets for heart rate, speed, pace, cadence and power by receiving data instantaneously from ANT+ sensors. Using the Mac, PC or Smartphone software, the LEDs can be programmed to visually respond to data from ANT+ devices. For example, when paired with a heart rate strap, a custom setup for how the LEDs will react to heart rate can be created. The workout program is then downloaded to the Sportiiiis unit.

Let’s say an athlete programmed their Sportiiiis to let them know while running that their heart rate has reached its “target.” At this point, they will see an LED blinking green. Falling below the designated heart rate causes the green LED to stop and a yellow light to the left to begin blinking instead. If they go over the desired heart rate, a yellow LED will begin blinking to the right. If the athlete significantly falls above or below their target heart rate zone, a red LED will appear.

In addition to the visual cues, the device has the ability to be programmed to give audio updates of current performance. The voice can be customized to speak at different intervals or simply not speak at all. By tapping the side of the unit, the device is capable of switching on the fly from heart rate to a different profile such as speed or cadence depending on the activity.

The recently announced 2nd generation of Sportiiiis features several upgrades to enhance the user’s experience:

• LED lights are now brighter and available in seven different colours (red, green, yellow, blue purple, orange and fuchsia) giving the user the ability to customize their colour scheme.
• The attachment point has been modified for easier connection to any set of glasses and the device can now be completely removed and reattached at the user’s convenience.
• Sportiiiis now offers normalized power measurements, Intensity Factor (IF) and Training Stress Score (TSS).
• The button on the device is now a mechanical button for increased functionality and reliability.
