How do companies usually choose an ISO consulting partner?

When businesses decide to pursue ISO certification, choosing the right consulting company often feels harder than the certification itself. Some consultants focus heavily on documentation, others push fast-track certification, and some actually work with internal teams to build sustainable processes.

From your experience, what really matters when selecting an ISO consulting company? Is it industry experience, audit success rate, ongoing support, or just cost? And how do you spot consultants who only prepare paperwork versus those who actually improve your systems?

Interested in hearing how others approached this and what worked (or didn’t).

Choosing an ISO consulting partner is tricky because on paper they all promise the same thing. From what I’ve seen, the real difference shows up once the work starts. Some consultants just dump templates on you and disappear, which technically gets you closer to certification but doesn’t fix anything internally. Others actually take time to understand how your processes work and adjust them to ISO requirements. When I was involved in this, we worked with https://www.fyconsulting.com/ and the biggest plus was that it didn’t feel like a paperwork-only exercise. They focused on making the system usable long term, not just audit-ready.
