Hey folks,
I’m upgrading an old-but-reliable Cisco 2504 at a remote site and just applied the
L-LIC-CT2504-25A to raise AP capacity in one shot. The install process was smooth (PAK registered, file installed, smart licensing checked), but I ran into a timing quirk: the controller showed the new license count immediately, yet additional APs didn’t actually join until after a reboot. Could be coincidence, but the sequence was: apply license → wait ~10–15 minutes → no change → reboot → APs started joining.
For context, I’d previously added a 5A pack on a different box without needing a reboot, so I’m trying to figure out whether this is version-specific (running 8.x here) or just the 25A behaving differently. Also, for anyone who’s mixed licenses (1A + 5A + L-LIC-CT2504-25A), did your counts merge cleanly without downtime, or do you schedule a quick maintenance window as standard practice?
Any tips on best order of operations? Apply license first, then add APs, then a maintenance reboot? Or should a simple config save/commit be enough?
