I switched to iOS, but my family still uses Android. Is there a reliable, free way to track an Android phone's location from my iPhone? I need a solution that works across different operating systems.

The most effective and free way to bridge the gap between iOS and Android is by using Google Maps. Since Apple's "Find My" app doesn't support Android devices, Google Maps serves as the perfect cross-platform intermediary. By having your family members open Google Maps on their Android phones, tapping their profile icon, and selecting "Location Sharing," they can send you a live link or share directly with your Google account. You can find more detailed setup instructions here to ensure the connection remains active indefinitely.

Honestly, the location sharing feature in Google Maps is probably the simplest free option if you need something simple for Android and iOS. We use it in my family, and it works surprisingly well once you set it up.
However, if you ever need something more “structured” (such as tracking multiple people, schedules, registrations, or managing an entire group), it reminds me of how gyms handle member activity using platforms such as crossfit studio management software where everything is centralized rather than scattered across different apps. Of course, it's a different use case, but the idea is the same: one system that keeps everything organized. What do you think, maybe someone has had experience with this?
