Hi,

there is a discussion going on in the Strava forum about ANT+ support.
A recent post from Strava states:
"BTLE is our priority and we also have concerns about the reliability and consistency when recording data from ANT+ accessories on Android."

I do not think ANT+ accessory have problems with Android. However, If it is not the case, maybe somebody from ANT+ could post a reply there.

Looks like Strava users already have a good understanding of what's going on, like:

Yes, we all know just how sorry Strava is. BTLE is an upgrade? In what alternate screwed up universe? If Strava has issues with the reliability and consistency of data collection via ANT+ that is a reflection of the incompetence of the Strava tech team and is just more of the BTLE kool-aide, what a load of arrogant BS. Upgrade???

Strava have now updated that thread stating that they do plan to add ANT+ support to their Android app.

Seems that the shit storm that they were facing in their forum thread has somehow speeded up the decisison making progress .
The common theme of many posts was "if you're incompetent, don't blame ANT" smile

Interesting - sounds like that was their excuse with the Polar Wearlink+ - search for strava and "polar wearlink+" on Google and you should find a Strava thread on it. Admittedly there were, and still are, some issues with the Wearlink+, but STT (Sports Tracker Technologies, now part of Suunto I think) and Endomondo seemed to manage reasonably well with it!

Trying to get BLE working well and consistently will be killing them under Android. There are still low level issues that they just want be able to reliably fix over a good range of devices. Any driver setup where there are bugs that need a regular phone restart or even one that needs a factory reset is just a nightmare to try and work with.

ANT+ is far easier and far more reliable in comparison.
