0 to 2.5V to Garmin Virb XE Through HRM Profile

I have a sensor that outputs 0V - 2.5V and I would like to send this data to the Garmin Virb XE Camera so it can be put into a G-Metrix. I was thinking of broadcasting the data through the Heart Rate Monitor device profile so that the camera accepts the data.

I am a beginner and am unclear whether this would be possible or the best way to go about it. After reading through the Starting Your Project Pages as well as other resources on the site I looked into the N5 ANT Starter Kit as well as various microprocessors but I am unsure what would be appropriate for this kind of application.

Can anyone suggest what pieces I would need to get started or direct me to a project similar that I could modify to suit my needs?

Thanks!

Hi IPAC,

Please consider the following:
A. Data - What data do I want to transmit? Is there already an ANT+ device profile for this?
B. Display Device - Is the Garmin Virb XE Camera the device you want to ultimately transmit to or are you just using this device for debugging purposes?
C. Is this a device that you are developing commercially, or is this a hobby/side-project?

Things I'd like you to know:
(1) Broadcasting custom data through the ANT+ Heart Rate Monitor device profile is not acceptable.
(2) In terms of choosing a chip, you may use whichever chip best suits your use-case and product needs. A list of modules is available here. If you are just getting started, I would suggest a development or evaluation kit to get you started. Development Kit Manuals are available here.
(3) If you are just getting started, I would highly discourage you from attempting to talk directly to the Garmin Virb Camera. Please use SimulANT+ or ANTWareII to simulate a display device that can hear your sensor device can talk to your sensor. Also, please read through the documents linked here.

If displaying your sensor data on the Garmin Virb is your end goal, please know that the Virb works as a display only for the ANT+ device profiles it chooses to support. The only way to display your sensor's data on the Virb is to have the Virb adopt an ANT+ profile designed for the type of data that your sensor is ANT+ certified to transmit, both of which are serious endeavors. Please contact us directly to discuss your use case and options if there is no ANT+ profile currently that supports your use-case and this is the path you wanted to go down.

Thanks for your reply.

The data I want to transmit is from the Casella Microdust Pro Dust Monitor. Currently I retrieve the data from the dust monitor and video from the Garmin Virb XE Camera and overlay the dust concentration on the video manually. By transmitting the data over an ANT+ device profile I was hoping to bypass this step so that the data could be imported with the video itself.

This is an internal project for my company and would not be developed commercially. Because of its specific application Garmin is not interested in supporting a new device profile for this. Is there any way to get around this and format the data so that it may be sent over an existing device profile that is supported by the Virb?
