Recently learned that some card games I thought were universal actually have totally different rules and names in other cultures. For example, what we call “War” is apparently played really differently in India! Have you ever played a card game abroad or with someone from a different background and noticed it wasn’t the same at all?

Yes! Card games are so shaped by where they come from. I once played a game called Teen Patti in India, and it was wild how different it felt from Poker, even though the mechanics are kind of similar. I read this piece, https://www.rvcj.com/nostalgia-how-retro-card-games-outperform-modern-designs/ and i,t talks about how regional traditions add their own flair and even change the entire vibe of the game. I love how traveling opens your eyes to new variations — it’s like every place has its own card game personality.

I always thought card games were basically the same everywhere, so it’s cool to learn how much culture influences them. It’d be interesting to try a bunch of different versions from around the world sometime.
