Shared Channel pairing when Multiple Masters in Range

Please can anyone confirm:
1.When there are multiple masters with exactly the same shared channel ID in range of a Slave and the Slave uses a wildcard search by setting the device type to 0 and setting the pairing bit the slave will only try to pair with physical Master that also has the pairing bit set ...or could it be getting the channel ID as a result of the wildcard search and then end up pairing with another Master because they have the same channel ID?
2. Can the Master toggle the pairing bit as often as we like?
3. When do pairing exchanges at the ANT level occur. Only on a poll at the defined message rate? If this is the case and a Master is always busy sending application data on each message poll then how will pairing be affected?
Thanks

1. I believe that the answer to this question is yes, a slave with a pairing bit set will only try to pair with a master with a pairing bit set.

2. Yes, the pairing bit can be reset on the master device while the channel is open.

3. Yes, pairing information is only exchanged at the message rate. The Master puts its channel ID into every message it sends, so at 1 Hz, the master sends out it's ID once per second. Because it is included in every message, there is an opportunity to pair on every message, so message rate does not impact pairing.

FYI, there is also a device pairing application note in the DevZone, which is very helpful in learning about pairing:
