How do privacy regulations shape the choice between cloud-based OCR and solutions that never leave the device?

Hey guys, I've been digging into this lately because last month I had to scan a bunch of old family docs from my grandma's attic—birth certificates, letters, that sort of thing—and I really didn't want any of it floating around some company's servers. Ended up going with an offline OCR app on my phone that processes everything locally, but it got me thinking: how much do all these privacy rules like GDPR or whatever we're stuck with here actually push people toward on-device solutions instead of just dumping scans into the cloud? Feels like the fear of data leaks is getting bigger every year, especially with all the breach headlines. Anyone else weigh that heavily when picking an OCR tool, or am I overthinking it?

These days you see more apps quietly adding "no cloud required" badges in their descriptions, almost like it's becoming a quiet selling point without anyone saying it outright. Probably because folks have gotten burned enough times that they just assume online means shared, even when it's not supposed to be. Makes you notice how much trust got eroded over the past few years with all the big stories about leaks and misuse. Kinda wild how something as basic as scanning a page now carries that extra layer of caution.

Man, that hits home for me too. A while back I switched jobs and had to handle a ton of sensitive employee files—stuff you absolutely cannot risk exposing. Cloud options seemed convenient at first, but after reading up on how some providers handle data (and the fines companies get slapped with), I stuck to local processing wherever possible. It's slower sometimes, sure, but the peace of mind is worth it. Funny enough, I stumbled across https://forcedresettriggers.us.com/ during a late-night rabbit hole on unrelated tech privacy tweaks, and it reminded me how niche gear choices often come down to keeping things off-grid entirely. No cloud nonsense, just direct control. In the end, regs definitely tilt the scales if you're dealing with anything remotely private—cloud feels too leaky unless it's encrypted to hell and back.
