ANT WIRELESS RELEASES FIRST INTEROPERABLE DEVICE PROFILE FOR BIKE RADAR SENSORS

ANT WIRELESS CONTINUES ITS COMMITMENT TO BIKE SAFETY; VARIAâ„¢ REARVIEW RADAR FROM GARMIN FIRST TO ADOPT PROFILE

Cochrane, AlbertaDecember 10, 2015 – ANT Wireless, proven innovator in ultra low power (ULP) wireless technology, today announced the member early release of the ANT+ interoperable device profile for Bike Radar sensors, the cycling industry’s first-of-its-kind wireless standard supporting radar-based cyclist safety.

For bicycle commuters and road cyclists alike, vehicular traffic is a constant source of worry and potential danger. Knowing what’s in front of you is easy, but knowing what’s behind you is not. The new device profile wirelessly transmits live feedback of the relative distance and speed of vehicles behind the cyclist and displays this critical information in front of them so they can keep their eyes on the road.

“The new ANT+ Bike Radar profile, along with the already released Bike Lights device profile, demonstrates the ANT+ commitment to innovation and developing technologies for our community that make cycling safer,” said James Fujimoto, Director of ANT Wireless. “With these new profiles, we are providing higher awareness and safety for both riders and motorists.”

The first product to adopt the Bike Radar profile is the Varia™ Rearview Radar from Garmin.  The Varia sensor can send data to Edge 1000 bicycle computers, the Varia Head Unit, or any other display device that supports the Bike Radar profile. The interoperable profile makes it possible for display device manufacturers to incorporate the Bike Radar sensor information into their products, and gives sensor manufacturers the ability to build their own bicycle safety systems.
