How it works:

An ANT+ Bike Power Sensor or Crank Torque Frequency Monitor is mounted on the pedal or wheel of a bicycle allowing the cyclist to calculate power output, which is the force required to move the bike forward measured in Watts. The power meter transmits the information to a display device that can be a bike mounted display unit, watch, cell phone, piece of fitness equipment, or other personal display device. The data can either be viewed instantly in real-time or stored and sent to a program at a later time.

Why Monitor:

  • SPD – To know how fast you are going and how far you have gone
  • CAD – Analysis of efficiency, how fast you are pedaling. Usually matched with PWR or know what gear you are in

How it works:

An ANT+Bike Speed Sensor is a device mounted on a bicycle that calculates the speed the bicycle is traveling. This is typically done through a magnet on the wheel spokes and a sensor on the bicycle frame that detects the magnet passing.

An ANT+ Bike Cadence Sensor measures the speed at which the user is pedaling, typically using a magnet attached to the pedal shaft and a sensor mounted on the frame.

An ANT+ Speed and Cadence combined sensor measures both of the above.

The data for bike speed and/or bike cadence is instantly transmitted to a bike computer or other device like a watch, cell phone or PDA for viewing. The data can be stored on the display and uploaded to the internet at a later time.

  Light Electric Vehicle (LEV)

Why Monitor:

How it works:

A motor attached to a bike that assists the rider with pedaling. The rider can control the resistance through a display unit on the bike. The display shows the battery life and estimates the distance before the battery runs out.

How it works:

When a user who is wearing an ANT+ device links their device to an ANT+ enabled piece of fitness equipment like a treadmill, the profile from the user is automatically imported. The fitness equipment can recognize the user profile and execute a specific workout. The workout data can then be transferred back to the device for archiving/analysis.

Data Use:

  • To analyze the data and figure out if you have a appropriate balance between diet and exercise

How it works:

ANT+ weight scales are devices primarily used to measure the weight of the user that is placed on it. The weight scale measures a user’s weight and, if the scale has access to more specific user information such as height and gender, the scale may be able to calculate user specific information like body mass index (BMI). The data collected from the weight scale can be displayed on either an ANT+ compatible personal mobile display like a watch or cell phone, a stationary display wirelessly mounted near the scale that can be accessed by multiple users or stored for use at a later date.

  Blood Pressure (BP)

Why Monitor:

To know if you have a healthy and safe blood pressure.

Measurement:

Systolic/Diastolic pressure

Data Use:

  • Data is used for regular home monitoring or to be reported to a doctor
  • Doctor’s use at clinic

Data Meaning:

Shows if you have high or low blood pressure

How it works:

Measures blood pressure, stores recorded data, and forwards this information to another device. The ANT+ blood pressure device also has the ability to handle multiple users and their associated user profiles. The collection device - which could be a cell phone, PDA or computer with internet access - will store, display and possibly track the data received from the blood pressure device. The information may be transmitted from the blood pressure device to a collection device and then over the internet to a database for storage and possibly further analysis. Ultimately, the blood pressure measurements can be stored in an application like an online health database or at a health professional’s office.

  Continuous Glucose Monitoring (CGM)

  • To know your interstitial glucose levels which indicates blood glucose levels

How it works:

A continuous glucose monitor (or CGM system) is a handheld personal monitoring device that uses wireless technology to collect glucose readings from a small sensor inserted under the skin. The sensor measures blood glucose levels in interstitial tissue fluid.

The system can display readings every one to five minutes in real time, and can be set to sound alarms if glucose levels go out of range, allowing immediate treatment. With the use of computer software, CGM data can be displayed in charts and graphs so that trends can be identified and blood glucose levels control improved.

  Emergency Response Alert (ERA)

For safety purposes to detect if a user has fallen and may not be capable of calling for help

Data Meaning:

Tells the receiver of the information that the user has fallen and may be at risk

How it works:

An ANT+ Emergency Response Alert is a body-worn sensor that measures and analyzes a user’s movements, primarily to detect if the user falls. Some fall detection devices may also be able to calculate body activity. If the device indicates the user has fallen, it transmits an alarm through a collection device with internet access such as a computer, cell phone, wrist-top computer or PDA that notifies help.

The collection device will also have the ability to receive alarms, as well as store, display and possibly track data received from the fall detection device.

How it works:

An ANT+ Bike Power Sensor or Crank Torque Frequency Monitor is mounted on the pedal or wheel of a bicycle allowing the cyclist to calculate power output, which is the force required to move the bike forward measured in Watts. The power meter transmits the information to a display device that can be a bike mounted display unit, watch, cell phone, piece of fitness equipment, or other personal display device. The data can either be viewed instantly in real-time or stored and sent to a program at a later time.

How it works:

An ANT+Bike Speed Sensor is a device mounted on a bicycle that calculates the speed the bicycle is traveling. This is typically done through a magnet on the wheel spokes and a sensor on the bicycle frame that detects the magnet passing.

 

An ANT+ Bike Cadence Sensor measures the speed at which the user is pedaling, typically using a magnet attached to the pedal shaft and a sensor mounted on the frame.

An ANT+ Speed and Cadence combined sensor measures both of the above.

 

The data for bike speed and/or bike cadence is instantly transmitted to a bike computer or other device like a watch, cell phone or PDA for viewing. The data can be stored on the display and uploaded to the internet at a later time.

How it works:

ANT+ Audio Control acts as either an audio player or remote control. For example, a watch could act as a remote control for a digital music player.
