Dear Sir,
We try to connect to the Garmin Heart Rate Monitor http://store.smheartlink.com/Garmin-Heart-Rate-Monitor-a-Digifit/M/B000UOD5QM.htm
by using nRFReady(nRF24AP2-USB ) USB Dongle with Antware II.
The setting we put to Antware as following:
1.set network key: FF-00-FF-00-FF-00-FF-00
2.Channel 0/channel assignment as Slave, network number: 0
3.Channel Id: Device=0, DeviceType=120, Trans type=0
4.Set Channel Period=8070
5.Set Radio Frequence=57
then click the auto open,
The HRM is wear on the chess tightly, the battery is checked.
However, after click on the auto open button, the Antware response EVENT_RX_SEARCH_TIMEOUT_0x01
::40,00-01-01
Does anything we miss to set or wrong?
Any suggestion on this matter is appreciated.
Best regards,smile

Which network key should be used? I used the public and ANT+ key found here http://www.thisisant.com/developer/ant-plus/ant-plus-basics/network-keys and neither helped.

Hi,

It could be one of the other channel configuration parameters that are set incorrectly. Refer to the Heart Rate Monitor Device Profile Document (in the Documents Download Page) for more information. The specific information for setting up a channel receiver can be found in Section 4.1.

In the Feedback Display do you also get the same event message:
EVENT_RX_SEARCH_TIMEOUT_0x01?

Have you also tried changing the orientation between the user, the heart rate monitor and the receiving USB module? The human body absorbs the 2.4GHz bandwidth and the location of the user relative to the transmitter and receiver in a closed space can inhibit the wireless transmission.

Yes I get a search timeout. Here are my settings (same as the other thread with a similar problem) they all seem to match the settings in the document you mentioned. I got the HRM right next to the USB stick (literally next to it, they were touching) after wearing it for a couple seconds to get it to turn on. This worked for the Display Simulator when connecting it to the HRM.

1. Connect Garmin USB2 stick.
2. Start ANTWareII.
3. Set the network key on net 1, 2 and 3.
4. Select the tab with channel 0.
5. Select Slave mode (Receive).
6. Set device number to 0 for searching.
7. Set transmission type to 0 for pairing.
8. Set device type to 120 for heart rate monitors.
9. Set channel period to 8070.
10. Set search timeout to 12 to represent 30 seconds (advanced tab).
11. Set value of Radio Frequency to 57.

The display simulator seems to find the device and display info from it, but not Antware II

Could you go into more detail as to how you set the network key? The Network # just acts as an index for a specified Network Key so you should only need to set it once.

Make sure you are using the ANT+ network key, because the public and the ANT-FS network keys will not work with an ANT+ HRM.

If you have more than one USB, another test to try would be to establish a connection between the Sensor Simulator (HRM) and ANTWareII.

If you could also send me your ANTWare II device log, I would be able to go through your set up in better detail.

Thanks

I will do that and upload some screenshots to make sure I have the configuration right. I'll be able to do that in a couple hours from now.

re: Network key:
I set the network key on the device's panel on the left, and then hit set key for each of the 3 network numbers.

Hi,

Thanks for the info, I will go through your set up and try to figure out why a channel cannot be established.

Just to confirm, are you wearing the HRM when you are doing these tests? Most HRMs enter sleep mode after not receiving input for a certain period of time, so that may be the reason ANTWareII is not receiving any data.

Were you able to get the Sensor Simulator to connect to ANTwareII?

Also, the display simulator has all the functionality (and more) of ANTWareII in regards to setting up channels and receiving data from registered ANT+ devices. Can you achieve your testing/development using the Display Simulator?

Regards,

Usama

I had it on my chest and then put it in my hand against my palm (to maintain a heartbeat) and held it right next to the usb stick. When using the display simulator this seemed to work.

The log seems like it has a couple Rx entries which I assume are received signals? I'm not really sure how to read the log yet.

In regards to the Display Simulator, is the source available? I only see "ANT+ Simulator source code" does that contain both the Display and Transmit simulator code?

Yes, the simulator source code folder contains both the display and the sensor simulator source code.

You can decode the log messages using the ANT Message Details Section (Appendix A, Section 9.3) of the ANT Message Protocol and Usage Document (found on the Documents Download page).

The log information you sent me does not contain the channel set up data. If you could go through the entire channel set up and then send the .txt files in the logs folder that would be great.

Thanks

I had to remove the screenshot links after saving them because they also contained the ANT+ network key.

The log files will provide better detail into the serial message exhange between the ANT module and the host MCU. From what I can see on the screen shots the channel was set up correctly for a HRM receiver device.

Heres the log file. I got it by going to device logs file menu and copying Device0.txt, that's the right place for the files right?

Hi,

Thanks for sending the log.

In your log it shows that you are setting the Channel ID, Channel Period and Channel RF Frequency before assigning the channel. This order results in the incorrect configuration of your receiver node.

The correct sequence for setting up a channel is shown in Figure 8-2, Node A & B Channel Establishment, in the ANT Message Protocol and Usage Document. It shows that the Channel should be assigned first before its configuration parameters are set.

In ANTWareII the purpose of the Auto-Open button is to allow the user to set all the changed values at once without having to separately click all of the Set Parameter buttons. This means that all the fields highlighted in yellow will be applied (in order after the channel is assigned) when the Auto-Open button is clicked. However, if the Set Parameter buttons are clicked before the Auto-Open button is clicked, the configured values will be set before the channel is assigned.

The correct order for setting up a channel:

1. Enter Channel ID Values (don't click Set ID button)
2. Enter Channel Period (don't click Set Channel Period button)
3. Enter Radio Frequency (don't click Set Radio Frequency button)
4. Enter Channel Assignment (don't click Assign Button button)

These values should all be highlighted in yellow, meaning that they will be set after the Auto-Open button is clicked.

5. Click Auto-Open
Now the channel will be assigned first before all the configuration values highlighted in yellow are set.

If you are not a fan of the Auto-Open feature you can choose to disable it by going to Settings->Options.

For more detail about using ANTWareII refer to the ANTWareII Users Guide (In documents tab).
