Zero Calibration & Garmin Edge 500

Hi,

I am wondering if there is any known issue while using the Garmin Edge 500 and doing a zero calibration. I am experiencing missing calibration requests or delays of the calibration request via the Garmin Edge 500. It will usually take up to 30 seconds to receive the message from the Garmin to begin the calibration routine. I am guessing that the Garmin will perform multiple transmissions after a set delay, but I have not confirmed if the Garmin will continually transmit the calibration request until it receives the sensor information.

I have two different firmware versions on the two different Garmin Edge 500 display units. Version 2.80 and 3.00, the latter is the most recent since last I checked.

If I am using the display simulator and issue a calibration request, the calibration request is nearly immediately received by the power meter.

Any information would be appreciated.

Thanks

Just found the answer:

There need to be a speed sensor present for the calibration request to be sent out from the edge 500

Hello!

Thanks for letting us know, I've passed the info onto the Edge team. There may also be more information on the Garmin forum if you would like to investigate further.

Thanks,

Just an update to this post.
A speed sensor is not required as binolardo2 had suggested. It appears to be related to the Garmin Edge 500 firmware and has since been fixed in later Edge firmware updates.

I saw the same issue, in fact its not even fixed in the newest revision of the firmware.
Upon detection of the power meter it pops up a menu asking you to calibrate or not.

If you select yes from this menu, it never returns properly. The only way is browse through the menu and select the calibrate function that way. Even then it some times takes the EDGE 500 a lifetime (sometimes minutes) to actually transmit the calibration request to the power meter.

Anybody else notice this?
