Programming the Chirp via Ant+ Display Simulator

I am attempting to program the Chrip Geocaching device through the Ant+ Display Simulator (using the ANT+ USB 2.0 stick). I have successfully loaded the Geocache Display profile and receive information from the Chirp when I check the "Receiving" box. The ANT Channel Configuration shows the following:

Device ID: 40566
Transmission Type: 5
Device Type: 19
Tx Period (counts): 8192

Current Geocache Contents are all blank except for the PIN which has the value 4294967295.

I've read through the Geocache Profile and these channel configuration values seem correct, although I believe the Tx Period should begin at 65553 to have a channel period of 0.5 Hz because this is the frequency at which the Chrip broadcasts its basic page constantly. I believe this is responsible for the RX errors I get in the display in the simulator (this is also noted in the profile documentation).

The simulator clearly has a button labeled "Program Geocache" but it never becomes available to press. I have checked the boxes to manually set all of the data but I cannot press the Program Geocache button.

Any suggestions or solutions to this problem are much appreciated.

Thanks

Hi,

Have you pre-programmed the chirp before with a Geocache device first such as an Oregon unit?

The display simulator can have some issues with chirps because they differ slightly from the profile in that they do not automatically rotate through the programmed pages, so the simulator relies on page 1 being programmed with the correct number of pages being there so it knows how many pages it needs to ask for first.

One workaround if you don't have access to a Geocache unit first is to program page 1 yourself using ANTware II. Ack [01-FF-FF-FF-FF-FF-02-FF] to the chirp to program page 1 to indicate that only 2 pages are available. You can find the channel parameter details in the device profile. You also need to use the ANT+ Network Key as well.

Harrison,

Thanks for the response! I have not programmed it at all as I don't have access to any of the Geocache units so your advice seems dead on.

I'm having trouble getting the ANT+ Network key though...when I click the link from the ANT+ Basics page it just keeps making me sign the adopter agreement licence (which I signed a week ago as well to get the ANT Simulator software). I realize this is totally off the original topic now but I don't suppose you know of any other way to get the ANT+ Network Key?

Again, thanks a lot for the help

That's a bit strange, here's the direct link, are you unable to access this page?

Edit: Fixed the link

I am unable to access that page, it says "RESTRICTED" and wants me to sign the adopter agreement again. Sounds like I might need to submit a help ticket or something like that?

Hi,

I had it looked into, it should be working now, you might need to clear your cache and cookies before trying again.

Wow that was way faster than I expected, the link works fine now! Thanks! I'll report back on my success with programming the Chrip.
