Display / Sensor simulation initialization problem

Hi,
I feel I maybe making a very basic error but with the lack of setup instructions I don't feel so bad asking a stupid question.

I thought that I would be able use my garmin usb stick/dongle on Ant Sensor simulation? The usb fails to initialize? I'm not sure which usb port it's in but I've tried quite a few under the AP2/USB2/AT3 selection.

Hardware - garmin usb2 stick, garmin hr strap
OS - windows 7 -32bit
USB stick has the driver installed (also made it check online that it had the most up-to-date driver, it did)

Is just running the standard installer on ANT+ Simulator (v1.9) sufficient? I read something about a network key although the software doesn't have anywhere for this to be entered (a least while i'm not initialized?)

thanks for any help offered.

Kind regards,

Hi Rob,

It should work, but a common pitfall is that you need to ensure that Garmin ANT Agent is switched off before you open the simulator.

A separate note is that the ANT+ Simulator is gradually being phased out, and SimulANT+ is now the preferred tool for all the profiles it supports. It has a better interface and includes a python scripting interface, making it much more powerful than the old simulator. You can find it and the list of profiles supported on the downloads page: http://www.thisisant.com/developer/resources/downloads/

Hope that helps,

Thanks for the reply.

Armed with the fact that it should work I plugged the garmin stick into another laptop and installed Display Simulator (simulant didn't seem to have and option of finding the strap? - it did see the stick though) and hey presto...it worked and I paired it with my hr strap.

This leaves me with a problem, why didn't it work on one of the laptops?
Unfortunately this is the laptop that i'll develop the python on handle the output from the stick on?
The OS clearly sees the stick and gets the correct drivers? Now I know that the stick works. I updated the .Net . Is there something I'm missing. The usb ports work as I plug my Garmin 810 in perfectly.

Anyone experienced any similar problems?

Cheers,

Hi Rob,

SimulANT+ does support connecting to Heart Rate straps - you just need to open the "heart rate display" simulator in the program. If you are planning to use python to handle the output from the stick, then you will be much better off with SimulANT+ as it has the scripting interface built in.

Did you check whether you had Garmin ANT Agent running on the original laptop? If it is installed then it typically runs in the background by default. You can tell by checking the icons in the system tray. If it's there, then right click and choose exit. Then you should find that the simulator works fine.

If this isn't the problem then maybe you have a driver issue on the first laptop. You could try reinstalling them.
