Raspberry Pi Ant+ MQTT-Broker:

https://infinityflow.ch/raspberry-pi-ant/

is a script from Reto, 43 years old, happily married and the proud father of a daughter and a son:

He earns their bread and butter in the IT industry. Here you can see all of Retos bikes:

Here are 10 Free Public MQTT Brokers:

https://mntolia.com/10-free-public-private-mqtt-brokers-for-testing-prototyping/

This path should work to stream ANT+ sensor live to Matlab or Python.

The domain name LiveTracking.io is for sale now:

I also recommend the blog of https://johannesbader.ch/ «Track Your Heartrate on Raspberry Pi with Ant+»

https://johannesbader.ch/blog/track-your-heartrate-on-raspberry-pi-with-ant/

Johannes Bader, former PhD student of the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology

who published many papers:

Also an excellent Swiss quality product.

There is a MQTT app for Android with Raspberry Pi support and a lot of positive feetback:

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=net.routix.mqttdash&showAllReviews=true

It was called an easy-to-use MQTT frontend for Android by a user. He was using it with a Mosquitto installation

https://mosquitto.org/

on a Windows PC as a broker and various IOT devices based on Arduino for several weeks - without any problems.

I think this app should also work with Rasperri Pi ANT+ MQTT, Matlab and Python.

Nies Kiesling had choosen Influx data base as a target. There is an Influx data base client for Matlab

https://ch.mathworks.com/matlabcentral/fileexchange/68312-influxdb-matlab

and an Influx data base client for Python

https://github.com/influxdata/influxdb-python

Influx data base is helpful to keep sensor data from many sources synchronous.

And Nies Kiesling also had choosen Grafana

https://grafana.com/

to visualize sensor data in the web:

A direct connection between Rasperri Pi and Matlab or Python is better

Install a SQLite Database on a Raspberry Pi as a data buffer

https://randomnerdtutorials.com/sqlite-database-on-a-raspberry-pi/

which should be the best database for Raspberry Pi , and read it out from Matlab, to avoid the need of a constant connection between Matalb and Rasperri PI.

Is there a better way to get sensor data into Matlab?

No need for MQTT anymore. And the sensor data base could also be read out by other applications than Matlab.

The sensor readings can then be published to SQLite Database in a second part (Python Web Server MQQT Client) grin:
