I am planning to use CC257x chips for my final year project. I found out that your evaluation kit is about 400$. Because it is a lot of money for me, I would like to know how far I can go if a only buy CC257x chips. I was think of making a custom PCB, solder the chip on it and control it using a all-usage microcontroller. I didn't find any similar projects on the net.

Is there another solution?

To do this kind of project on a small budget and within a reasonable timeframe, I would say your best bet would be do buy an interface board where the antenna design and surface mounting have been done for you and connect that to a micro controller platform, whether a pre-designed one or one of your own design. I'd look up Digikey or Octoparts for a CC257x module.
